Alumni Lecture Series: Chapter 2 (Aniruddha Das)

Abstract

In the current job scenario, it is of utmost importance to specialise in one technical skill and master it. It is significant to have domain knowledge and understand the industry dynamics and business processes of the target functioning area.

To enlighten us more on this subject, we had invited Aniruddha Das, who is currently working as Senior Software Developer at Roku, as part of the DA-IICT Alumni lecture. Aniruddha Das is our B.Tech batch 2009 graduate. He started as a Software Developer at IBM, then moved on to Microsoft as Software Developer. Currently, he is working with Roku — a line of digital media players manufactured by American company Roku, Inc.

In his talk, Aniruddha Das emphasised the importance of holistic growth and the importance of different subjects such as Humanities, social science, theoretical subjects include core computer science subjects such as DSA, DAA, DBMS, CN, etc which are important for the development of an individual.

In his talk, he focused on five major areas for Scalable Software Development. He briefly talked about the Front End Development, familiarity with React Framework, AngularJS, and Typescriptis a must. He then focused on acquiring skills in Application Networking. The networking side of the development requires good knowledge of the CDN-Content Distribution Network, Load Balancing, and Service Discoveries. He then talked about data-efficient storage solutions like Apache Cassandra.

He further went on to explain that Application Processing Units are the next important block in software design. Having a good hand in database technologies like MongoDB, DynamoDB and Container technologies like Docker, Kubernets is a plus today. One should get familiar with two significant toolkits used by industries that is TensorFlow and SageMaker.
