Speech Technologies in Indian Languages under the project titled, ‘National Language Translation Mission (NLTM): BHASHINI’

Eligibility:

Undergraduate Students of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics and VLSI Design, Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering or Information and Communication Technology or Mathematics and Computing (or a related discipline).

Desirable:

  • Background in Signals and Systems or Digital Signal Processing and Relevant Mathematics
  • Background in Machine Learning and Deep Learning and Its Applications to Speech Technology
  • Electives on Speech Communication/ Speech Signal Processing, Advanced Digital Signal Processing (Fourier Transform, Gabor Transform, Mel Spectrograms, Wavelet Transforms, Scalograms, etc)
  • Data Collection Experience from the Hospitals
  • Building Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
  • Analytical Skills: Linear Algebra, Calculus.

Stipend: Rs. 6,000/- (consolidated) per month

Starting Date: On or before July 21, 2025

End Date: December 31, 2025

The activities of above mentioned project positions involve:

  • Development of Deep Learning and Machine Learning Algorithms for Data Augmentation and Pattern Recognition tasks for Dysarthic Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR)-Assistive Speech Technology,
  • Research on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) for Enhancement of Dysarthric Speech,
  • Development of Application Programing Interface (API) for Assistive Speech Technologies,
  • Speech Data and Metadata Collection in Gujarati/Hindi/English Dysarthric Speech from the Hospitals,
  • Analysis of Dysarthric Speech and Development of Dysarthric ASR,
  • Possible Performance Improvements using Dysarthric Severity-Specific ASR Models
  • Research Publications in Top Conferences and Journals
