Task Description:
- Development of Application Programing Interface (API) for Assistive Speech Technologies,
- Development of Deep Learning and Machine Learning Algorithms for Data Augmentation and Pattern Recognition tasks for Dysarthic Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR)-Assistive Speech Technology,
- Development of Eye Gaze to Speech Convertor: Assistive Speech Technologies for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Patients
- Research on Speech Large Language Models (LLMs) for Assistive Speech Technologies
- Research on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) for Enhancement of Dysarthric Speech,
- Speech Data and Metadata Collection in Gujarati/Hindi/English/Marathi Dysarthric Speech from the Hospitals,
- Analysis of Dysarthric Speech and Development of Dysarthric ASR,
- Performance Improvements using Dysarthric Severity-Specific ASR Models
- Development of Speech Emotion Recognition for Disabled Persons
- Development of Personalized Text-to-Speech (TTS) as Communication Aid for Disabled Persons

Eligibility:
PhD in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering or Information Technology, Data Science, Neuroscience, (or a related discipline). Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis can also apply by providing proof of thesis submission.
Desirable:
- Solid publications record in Journals and Conferences
- Background in Mathematics (Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics)
- Good programming knowledge in Python, C, MATLAB
- Working knowledge in handling Signal Processing, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning Algorithms for Speech Technology Applications
- Prior work experience in speech processing (e.g., dysarthric speech classification, emotion recognition of disabled persons, Autism Spectrum Disorder) is a plus.
- Prior experience in conducting interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary research is a plus.
Emoluments (Stipend): Rs. 1, 00, 000/- (consolidated) per month.
Additional Information
Candidates who have not yet defended their theses but are selected for the Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) will receive Rs. 70, 000/- (consolidated) per month. They will be moved to an PDF position once the thesis is successfully defended and the PhD degree certificate or the provisional PhD degree awarded certificate is shared. The entire duration of their appointment at DAU Gandhinagar, including the period prior to the award of the PhD degree certificate or a provisional equivalent, will be till March 31, 2026 with possible extension of one year (renewable for additional few months (maximum up to 1 year) subject to possible extension of the project, availability of funds, and performance).
